Edith Parrish honored at National CFC Committee Meeting

Edith Parrish, the Deputy Director of the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA) was honored today at the National Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) Committee meeting.  Ms. Parrish was presented a proclamation declaring:

The 6th day of May in the year 2008, that the National Combined Federal Campaign Committee, hereby honor and salute Edith L. Parrish for her tireless devotion and stalwart service to charities and the people and causes they serve, during her thirty years of service to the CFC.

Going! Going! Gone!!! 2007 CFCNCA Campaign Knocks It Out of the Park!

2007 Campaign is a Record Breaker

The celebration provided an opportunity to thank the thousands of volunteers who made it possible to achieve historic results in the 2007 CFCNCA campaign, the Federal government’s workplace giving drive.

Vince Micone the chair of the Local Federal Coordinating Committee (LFCC) had the honor of making the momentous announcement that the 2007 campaign has currently raised $61.2 million dollars (this figure is the reported amount and will be adjusted following an OPM audit). That figure is $2.4 million over last year’s amount, an increase of 2.1 percent.

“This grand total means that every day, Federal employees contribute $167,000 to vital programs at home and abroad”, said Micone. “Your starring role will touch the lives of people you will never see and never know but whose world has been profoundly changed by your effort.”

Honorary Chairman Admiral Thad Allen Videotapes a 2007 Campaign Thank You Message

Admiral Thad Allen recently videotaped a thank you video directed at Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA) donors and volunteers. As the Honorary Chairman of this year’s Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) he threw out the ceremonial first pitch at the Nationals game in September to officially start the 2007 campaign, so he thought it was only fitting that he wrap up this year’s fundraising drive at the team’s new ballpark.

During the two years he has been the Honorary Chair the CFCNCA has raised over $120 million dollars for local and worldwide charities.

2007 Communications Contest Winners Announced

The 2007 Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA) recently presented awards to the winners of their annual Communication Contest.  The event was held in the Ben Franklin Room at the United States Postal Service Headquarters and featured two Local Federal Coordinating Committee members (Linda Washington and Barbara Jackson) who acted as co-master of ceremonies.  Please click the following link to see the list of winners.  2007 CFCNCA Communication Contest 

 

Judging Occurs for 2007 Communications Contest
 
Over two dozen judges recently reviewed hundreds of entries for the 2007 Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA) Communications Contest.  The judges made up of former loaned executives and campaign directors, employees of local non-profit agencies and other friends of the CFCNCA looked at items ranging from everything to campaign posters to websites.
 
Their evaluations are currently being tabulated and the winners will be announced at the Communication Contest award ceremony April 4th.  The event will be held in the Ben Franklin Room at the United States Postal Service headquarters.

Library of Congress Closes the Book on a Great Campaign!

A Pair of Million Dollar Circle Awards Presented!

The Department of Treasury held their 2007 Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) Closing Awards Ceremony yesterday in the department’s historic Cash Room.  The event was a celebration honoring their excellent campaign which raised over $2.4 million dollars for charities not only in the DC/MD/VA region, but worldwide.

USDA Harvests Another Goal-Breaking Campaign!

U.S. Department of Agriculture raises $1.9 million for the CFC

Deputy Secretary Chuck Conner and Under Secretary Nancy Johner provided welcoming remarks at the event which honored USDA's Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) volunteers.

USDA exceeded their 2007 campaign goal by raising $1.9 million, and in the past five years, USDA employees have donated over $9.8 million to the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA).

Department of Defense Shatters Their 2007 Goal

A record $15.8 million raised for the CFC!

Photo of Deputy Secretary of Defense Gordon England admires an oversized check for 15.8 million dollars which was presented to the C F C N C AThe Department of Defense held their 2007 Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA) Awards Ceremony on January 28th at the Pentagon and announced a record breaking $15.8 million dollars raised. The 2007 campaign total was $2.6 over their goal of $13.2 million.

Deputy Secretary of Defense and Campaign Vice Chair the Honorable Gordon England provided the event's address. "I'm a firm believer that generosity is the hallmark of a great nation... of a great people...and I have to tell you that I just grow more and more impressed with the magnificent generosity of the men and women of this Department" said Secretary England.

2008 CFCNCA Application Schedule Set

The 2008 Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA) charity application schedule has been set and is now posted. The schedule includes dates of workshops that will be held at CFCNCA headquarters as well as deadlines for federation and independent charity applications, denial notices, final appeal due dates, and much more. In order to help charities apply to the 2008 campaign CFCNCA will be holding nine workshops during the month of January. From Riverdance to We Are the World, the stars come out at GSA

Before a standing room only crowd in their auditorium the General Services Administration (GSA) held their 2007 Fall Follies in support of the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC). The event was hosted by none other then Elvis Presley and featured acts that ranged from the Lords of the Dance to interpretive dance to a rousing rendition of We Are The World. 3rd annual talent show is a hit!

(11/29/07) The Library of Congress held their 3rd annual employee talent show review to support the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) today in their Coolidge Auditorium. Ten different acts varying from spiritual dancing to poetry reading competed before an enthusiastic crowd of co-workers.

Admiral Thad Allen is a notable presence on the campaign trail

Admiral Thad Allen, commandant of the United States Coast Guard and 2007 Honorary Chairperson of the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC), has made his presence known during this year’s fundraising drive. From throwing out the first pitch at a Washington Nationals baseball game on September 21, to delivering the keynote address at the Department of Defense’s CFC kickoff, to videotaping messages of encouragement, Admiral Allen has been front and center when it comes to promoting the CFC in 2007.

(11/14/07) An overflow crowd of Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA) Campaign Managers, Loaned Executives, volunteers and friends met today at the National Press Club for a report of how the 2007 campaign is moving along. The main discussion was the need to close the gap between this year’s campaign and the 2006 drive.

“We have eight days until Thanksgiving but today we are celebrating early. We at the CFCNCA are very grateful for all that you do for the CFC. But, as the spirit of the holiday season kicks in and then we go into our final push. It is imperative that we close this gap in the next two weeks so we can head into our final stretch seeing how far ahead of last year we can finish” said the Local Federal Coordinating Committee (LFCC) chairperson Vince Micone.

The Library of Congress Cuts the Ribbon on their CFC Charity Fair

The Library of Congress held a charity fair that hosted thirty-nine charities that ranged from those that help abused animals to ones that provide support for the international relief agencies. The event was held in the Library’s Madison Hall and featured a ribbon-cutting ceremony to start things off.

The festivities got under away after the Library's CFC chair and Leon Turner the vice-chair led a ribbon cutting ceremony that officially started the fair.

This the second CFC event the Library of Congress has held and with a book fair, a talent show and even word of a pet photo contest, it certainly won’t be their last.

CFCNCA Volunteers Beautify a Local ParkPhoto of C F C volunteers planting trees at Kenilworth Gardens Park

Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA) Loaned Executives and staff recently participated in a tree planting ceremony in the District of Columbia. The Major League team which consists of Loaned Executives Stephen Smith, Annette Wilson, Kara Brown, Ed Sheehan and Tony Powell partnered with the Student Conservation Association (SCA), a member of the Earth Share federation and the U.S. Park Service to help beautify a local park. Wendy McQuilkin (of the All Stars team) and CFCNCA Associate Director George Young also volunteered their time and services.

OPM’s 1st Annual Run/walk is a big hit!

The old Ventures hit “Walk Don’t Run” doesn’t apply at the Office of Personal Management (OPM). In fact, if OPM was going to do a re-make, the song might be re-titled “Don’t Just Stand There; Walk and Run”. OPM held their first annual Run/Walk around the memorial lake at Constitution Gardens. A large crowd of OPM employees participated in the three mile event for runners and a mile walk for the walkers.

Salsa lessons are a big hit!

The Office of Personal Management (OPM) held their version of the hit TV series Dancing With the Stars. But unlike the show, nobody was voted off and there were no losers.

OPM’s Division for Strategic Human Resources Policy hosted the free Salsa and Merengue dance lessons and attracted a rather large group to OPM’s Campbell Auditorium. Though the lessons were at no cost, they did accept donations that went toward this year’s Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA).

The Government Accountability Office held a charity fair for its 2007 Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) fund drive. The fair featured thirteen charities that were on hand to bring attention to their organizations to prospective donors.

The highlight of the event was a table that featured two computers that enabled donors to not only search all of the CFC’s over 3,600 charities, but to donate on the spot! The GAO campaign staff arranged for the computers and had 2007 CFC catalogs, pledge forms and numerous other items on hand in order to make it as simple as possible for donors to make their donations right there and then.

OPM Provides a List of Southern California Wildfire Relief Organizations

The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) continues to monitor the extreme devastation occurring in Southern California due to the wildfires. At this time, OPM is encouraging Federal donors who are interested in contributing monetarily toward the relief efforts to visit the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s website.

2007 CFCNCA kicks off at RFK Stadium

On Friday night September 21 at RFK Stadium, the Combined Federal Campaign of the National Capital Area (CFCNCA) kicked off the 2007 campaign. To start this year’s campaign, CFCNCA Honorary Chairperson Admiral Thad W. Allen of the United States Coast Guard threw the ceremonial first pitch prior to the start of the Washington Nationals/Philadelphia Phillies game.
